April 1 Update

The Heritage South Advisory Committee met on March 28th.  The ongoing sewer odor was a primary topic again.  We truly appreciate all those who have attended previous County Commissioners meetings and spoken at those events.

As we have learned, Union county has many challenges regarding water and sewer.  Because of this we need to stay aggressive with the county about the neighborhood sewer odor issue or we will be in danger of being put on the back burner or even simply out prioritized. 

Showing up at the meetings isn't enough.  We need "many" people to sign up to speak at the April 15th commissioners meeting, and if need be at all future meetings.  Though you are given 3 minutes to speak, you don't have to use the entire 3 minutes.  A quick comment will do.  We understand most people do not feel comfortable speaking.  We ask you to please try to overcome the issue and help us.

To help with this we are holding a community meeting for those willing to help on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30 PM in the Clubhouse.  We will be discussing points you can make when you speak.  NO OTHER TOPICS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE MEETING.  The meeting should last no more than 10 or 15 minutes.  For those who cannot make the meeting on the 9th, below is an example of what you might say at the commissioners meeting:

My name is ________________

I am a resident of Union County and I live in the Heritage South community in Indian Trail 

I am here to speak about the odor in our community.  Our neighbors have been living with this horrible smell, many for more than 4 years, and we would like to know when one of the three solutions provided to the county will be decided on.  What is the timeline for solving our problem?  

Many of you reading this may feel "I don't smell anything, so this isn't my problem".  Though you may not smell the odor from your home, the issue will impact the entire community's home values.  Remember, one day there may be a different issue you may need your neighborhood's support on. 

Here is how to register to speak:

1.    Go to https://www.unioncountync.gov/government/boards-committees/board-of-county-commissioners

2.    Scroll down and click on “Register To Speak”

3.    Read the material (about ½ page)

4.    Complete the form by selecting which “Regular Meeting” you’ll attend (it’s a drop down box with the dates listed), state what you want to speak about (“the sewer smell in the Heritage Development”) and provide your contact information

5.    Click “Submit
