Hertiage South Advisory Committee Summary

The advisory committee met on Thursday April 25th.  The primary discussion once again centered on the continued issue with the “sewer odor”.  Several approaches were discussed to continue, and increase, pressure on Union County to address the odor with one of the 3 recommendations from Union County Public Works.  The committee was in agreement that we need to begin increasing the pressure on the commissioners.  Steve Worgan will begin by contacting the commission chair person, J.R. Rowell, to make sure he is aware of the report in our possession regarding Union County’s awareness of the county’s sewer issue and our willingness to share that publicly.  We scheduled 2 Community Meetings to communicate what we believe are the next steps with regard to the odor.  We also all agreed that this issue, although it may not impact you individually, WILL IMPACT all of our property values if a viable solution is not enacted soon.

We also discussed the pool opening.  Specific information about the pool season will come from First Service Residential, Sharday Williams.

Community Meetings

We have scheduled two community meetings:

Wednesday May 8th 6:00 PM in the Clubhouse

Thursday May 16th at 2:00 PM in the Clubhouse

Anonymous “Documentation”

Just before the Union County Commissioners meeting on April 15th, Steve Worgan received an anonymous package that contained a note attached to a “Waste Water Treatment Planning Update from 2016”.  That report, along with the note, clearly documents Union County’s awareness of the issue that would be created by not addressing the design flaws that presently impact us and cause our community’s odor.  Steve will walk us through the note and the document at our community meetings.

Union County Commissioners Meeting May 20th, 2024

We will also discuss preparations for the upcoming Union County Commissioners meeting at our community meetings.  Our objectives is to continue to show up “in force” and to keep our issue squarely in front of the commissioners.  We will make sure that the commissioners know that while we have “played nice” so far, we are now past that point and will use everything at our disposal to get them to implement a solution.  This is includes continually attending Commissioner meetings, communicating directly to each commissioner on a regular basis, both as a group and individually.  We will also use the NC Real Estate Commission to make certain that the builders are disclosing the sewer issue prior to someone purchasing a new home, the North Carolina Department of Health to get their input on the odor, and finally using the local press including the local TV stations.  We will also make certain that the commissioners are aware that we know it is an election year.
