The advisory team received the following communication from Union County regarding the odor....
Mr Worgan,
As you are aware, Union County is conducting an alternatives analysis to determine viable options for mitigating odor related to the wastewater system, specifically the discharge of the Poplin Road Pump Station force main.
We have contracted with Black & Veatch for this work and our first step in the analysis is to collect data. We will be collecting data at the manhole where the poplin road force main currently discharges on Curling Creek Drive. To obtain true baseline information on odor causing gases specifically H2S (hydrogen sulfide), Union County will be disabling the lime chemical feed system in place at the Poplin Road Pump Station. Lime is added to wastewater to inhibit corrosion and typically has a benefit of controlling odor. This shutdown is temporary and will only be for the duration of the data collection, which will be for a one-week period starting tomorrow September 26, 2023. I will advise when the system is placed back into service or if we run into any unforeseen circumstances which may cause it to be offline for a longer period.
While the lime system is not in service, it is possible that an increase in odor may occur. I wanted to make sure you were aware of this potential so you could share this information with the Heritage HOA and residents.
